Job Overview: We are seeking a Paralegal to join our First-Party Property Department. This role is crucial for the support of our insurance defense attorneys through various stages of case management, including investigation, preparation for hearings, trials, and managing client relationships. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with litigation software and be adept at handling a high volume of case files with precision and professionalism.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare complex legal documents and draft pleadings, subpoenas, discovery requests, responses, and other legal correspondence.
  • Analyze claim files and records, and organize and summarize case materials.
  • Support deposition and trial preparation, including organizing depositions and trial binders and preparing exhibits.
  • Assist in courtroom settings, providing support to attorneys and presenting demonstrative evidence.
  • Draft and oversee the execution of settlement agreements.
  • Manage daily tasks and responsibilities of legal assistants, ensuring adherence to client guidelines and firm procedures.
  • Implement and oversee the workflow processes within the unit, and coordinate monthly client conference calls.
  • Maintain and update Unit Master Trial and Court Deadline spreadsheets.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and procedural requirements, and manage document uploads and downloads on client portals.
  • Monitor deadlines and obtain necessary extensions; update and maintain ToDos for the department.
  • Handle administrative functions such as processing incoming mail, managing file systems in ATO, and coordinating travel arrangements.
  • Provide comprehensive assistance during trial preparations and at trials.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a paralegal in insurance defense, with a strong preference for those experienced in first-party property claims.
  • Excellent knowledge of litigation processes and legal document preparation.
  • Proficiency in litigation software and case management tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under the direction of practicing attorneys and supervise a team of legal assistants.

Education:

  • A minimum of an Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field is required.
  • Paralegal certification is highly preferred.
